Evangelism Trip Rumbek, Cueibet, Abirieu, Yardong, Agangrial, Morokech, Bahr-Gel, Malou, Sudan
In November, 2003 Bishop Elias Taban, his wife Rev. Anngrace, and their 20 person evangelism team traveled north to Rumbek, Cueibet, Abirieu, Yardong, Agangrial, Morokech, Bahr-Gel, and Malou, Sudan. Pastor Manoah Alimasi Modi, who was the team leader, went early with nineteen team members who left Yei, Sudan by truck on November 17 and returned on December 1. Bishop Taban and Anngrace left Yei on November 20 using a Mission Aviation Fellowship airplane and returned to Yei on November 27.
Bishop Taban and Anngrace stayed in Rumbek and performed mainly discipleship training with some evangelism. He worked through the new Presbyterian church that was planted during our last trip to Rumbek in March 2003. Mr. Moses Ater is pastor of this new Presbyterian church in Rumbek. Bishop Taban left a radio communication system with Pastor Ater, so it would be easier to communicate with Bishop Taban about the needs of the many new churches and believers in the Rumbek area. In Rumbek the County Secretary of Aweil West District was saved. He invited Bishop Taban to bring the gospel to his district. His district was one of the main targets of slave raids during the war. He showed Bishop Taban a list of 25,000 names of people who were taken as slaves by northern Muslims.
During this trip, people from other villages were continuously asking our evangelism team to come to their villages. Matthew 9:37 says, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest; therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Pray with us that we will eventually get to take the gospel to all of those villages.
The results of what God did through the evangelism team are listed below:
| Town | Indicated Decisions for Christ | New Churches Planted |
|---|---|---|
| Abirieu | 7,100 | 1 |
| Cueibet | 2,400 | 1 |
| Yardong | 1,600 | 1 |
| Bahr-Gel | 1,010 | 1 |
| Malou | 940 | 1 |
| Agangrial | 870 | 1 |
| Rumbek | 740 | 0 |
| Morokech | 635 | 1 |
| TOTAL | 15,295 | 7 |
Approximately 70% of the new believers had been animists, and 10% had been Muslims. The JESUS Film was shown in the Dinka language to the Dinka tribe. God showed his power to the villagers in that many people were healed of various illnesses.
Because very few bibles exist among believers in these areas, the team distributed 250 copies of the Dinka Bible to pastors, evangelists, and church lay leaders in each of the following denominations: African Inland Church, Episcopal Church of Sudan, Gospel Apostolic Church, and Evangelical Presbyterian Church. A total of 1,000 bibles were distributed. Follow-up of the new believers will be handled by the new Presbyterian churches, and the three denominations listed above.
We wish to thank Diguna based in Arua, Uganda for loaning us their truck and driver for the entire trip. Listed below are the expenditures for this trip.
| First Aid | $30 |
| Donation to the Presbyterian Churchs Womens Group | $200 |
