Approximately 60% of the new believers had been animists, and 5% had been Muslims. The JESUS Film was shown in the Lingala language to the Kakwa, Logo, and Mundu tribes. Follow-up of the new believers will be handled by the Evangelical Presbyterian Church and the Community Evangelical Church of the Congo (CECA). A total of 400 bibles were distributed in the Lingala language.
The main themes of our discipleship training were on biblical self control and self discipline as listed below:
- Lack of self control brings misery (Proverbs 25:28).
- One who gives full vent to his anger acts like a fool, while one who keeps himself under control is wise (Proverbs 19:11).
- Every Christian can be self controlled. Self control is a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).
- We are commanded to be self controlled (1 Peter 1:13).
- One can and must develop self control (2 Peter 1:5-6).
- Self discipline is a gift of God (Timothy 1:4-7).
- Both young and old alike must learn self control (Titus 2:2-6).
- We must control our thinking (1 Corinthians 10:5-6).
- Be neither wishy-washy nor easily moved by others (1 Corinthians 15:58).
